1-2 Combination Pass Drill
This drill focuses on executing 1-2 combination passes to enhance players' ability to create space and maintain possession. Players will practice receiving the ball, making quick passes, and moving into space to receive the ball again.
Objective
To improve players' understanding and execution of 1-2 combinations in tight spaces.
Setup
Use a 20x20 yard area marked with cones to create a square. Position 4 players: two at opposite corners for passing and two at the other corners for receiving and moving into space. Add a defender to increase pressure.
Drill Steps
- 1
Player A starts with the ball and passes to Player B, who is positioned 10 yards away.
- 2
Player B receives the ball and immediately plays a one-touch pass back to Player A, then runs towards the space created.
- 3
Player A plays a second touch pass back to Player B, who has now moved into the open space.
- 4
Introduce a defender who applies pressure after the first pass, forcing players to make quicker decisions.
Coaching Points
- Encourage quick, accurate passing.
- Emphasize the importance of movement after passing.
- Remind players to communicate verbally and visually.
- Focus on receiving the ball with the correct foot for easier passing.
Variations
Add more defenders to increase difficulty, or allow players to use two touches for a slower pace.
