Crossing Technique Drill
This drill focuses on perfecting the crossing technique, emphasizing the importance of body positioning and foot placement. Players will practice delivering accurate crosses from various angles and distances to enhance their ability to set up goal-scoring chances.
Objective
To develop effective crossing skills that lead to more assists and scoring opportunities.
Setup
Set up a rectangular area on the pitch, about 30 yards long and 20 yards wide. Place cones at the corners to mark the crossing zones. You will need at least two players to perform the drill, one acting as the crosser and the other as the target for the cross.
Drill Steps
- 1
Position two players at opposite ends of the rectangular area, one with the ball and one at the target zone.
- 2
The player with the ball dribbles towards the crossing zone while maintaining control.
- 3
As they approach, they should look up to assess the target's position and angle.
- 4
The crosser then delivers a cross using the side of their foot, aiming for the target player in the designated zone.
- 5
After the cross is delivered, players switch roles and repeat the drill, focusing on accuracy and technique.
Coaching Points
- Keep your head up to assess target positioning.
- Use the correct part of your foot for a clean cross.
- Follow through with your kicking leg for better accuracy.
- Adjust your body position to maintain balance while crossing.
- Encourage communication between the crosser and the target.
Variations
To make the drill easier, allow players to use both feet for crossing. To increase difficulty, introduce a defender to challenge the crosser or require crosses from different angles.
