Precision Passing Drill
This drill focuses on developing accurate passing skills through body positioning and timing. Players will work in pairs to practice both short and long passes while maintaining proper technique and angle of approach.
Objective
To improve passing accuracy and decision-making in various scenarios.
Setup
Create a rectangular area measuring 20x30 yards using cones. Pair up players and position them 10-15 yards apart. Each pair should have a ball to start the drill.
Drill Steps
- 1
Begin by having both players face each other, standing 10-15 yards apart, and start with a simple short pass.
- 2
Encourage players to use the inside of their foot for better accuracy, focusing on their body angle towards the target.
- 3
After a set number of short passes (5-10), switch to long passes, increasing the distance between players while maintaining proper technique.
- 4
Incorporate movement by having players pass and then move to a new position to receive the next pass, simulating game scenarios.
- 5
Progress by adding a defender in the middle to challenge the accuracy and decision-making under pressure.
Coaching Points
- Focus on body positioning and angle towards the target.
- Encourage players to communicate verbally before passing.
- Emphasize soft touches on the ball for better control.
- Remind players to follow through on their passes for accuracy.
- Check for eye contact with the receiving player before passing.
Variations
Make the drill easier by reducing the distance between players; make it harder by introducing multiple defenders or increasing the distance.
