Cone Dribble Relay
The Cone Dribble Relay drill focuses on improving dribbling skills and ball control in a fun, competitive format. Players will navigate through a series of cones while maintaining possession of the ball, enhancing their agility and footwork.
Objective
To develop dribbling skills and ball control under pressure.
Setup
Set up a straight line of 5-7 cones spaced about 2-3 feet apart on the pitch. Divide players into two teams and have them line up behind a starting cone. Each player will need a soccer ball.
Drill Steps
- 1
Start with the first player in each team dribbling the ball towards the first cone, using small touches to maintain control.
- 2
When they reach the cone, they must navigate around it and continue dribbling to the next cone in the sequence.
- 3
After reaching the last cone, players will turn around and dribble back to their starting position.
- 4
Once they return, the next player in line will start their turn, repeating the dribbling sequence.
- 5
Continue until all players have completed the relay, and encourage them to focus on quick, controlled touches.
Coaching Points
- Keep your head up to observe the field.
- Use both feet to dribble and control the ball.
- Stay low and balanced for better agility.
- Encourage quick touches for better control.
- Focus on smooth transitions around each cone.
Variations
To make it easier, increase the distance between the cones. To make it harder, add a defender for each team to challenge the dribblers.
