Inside Touch Dribbling Drill

This drill focuses on the inside touch technique, helping players to maintain close control of the ball while dribbling. Players will work on their footwork and body positioning to improve their overall dribbling skills.

Objective

To improve players' ability to control the ball with inside touches while dribbling.

Setup

Set up a grid area of approximately 15x15 yards using cones. Divide players into pairs, each with one ball. Ensure there is enough space for each pair to practice without interference.

Drill Steps

  1. 1

Have one player start dribbling the ball within the grid using only their inside foot to touch the ball forward.

  2. 2

The second player will act as a defender, trying to intercept the ball while staying within the grid.

  3. 3

After 30 seconds, switch roles so that both players get the chance to practice dribbling and defending.

  4. 4

Encourage players to use quick, small touches to keep the ball close and to change direction frequently.

  5. 5

After both players have had two turns, introduce a time limit to increase urgency and focus.

Coaching Points

  • Keep your head up to assess the field and make decisions.
  • Use quick, controlled touches with the inside of your foot.
  • Stay light on your feet for better balance and agility.
  • Encourage changes in direction to evade the defender.

Variations

Increase the size of the grid for more space or add a third player to increase defensive pressure.
