La Croqueta Practice Drill
This drill focuses on practicing the La Croqueta technique to help midfielders evade defenders while maintaining possession. Players will work on their footwork and quick decision-making under pressure.
Objective
Enhance ball control and evasion skills using the La Croqueta.
Setup
Set up a grid measuring 10x10 yards with cones. Position one defender in the center and have 2-3 midfielders on the outside. The midfielders will attempt to dribble into the grid and perform the La Croqueta to get past the defender.
Drill Steps
- 1
Start with the midfielders positioned outside the cone grid, with the defender in the center.
- 2
One midfielder begins by dribbling towards the defender, keeping the ball close to their body.
- 3
As the midfielder approaches, they perform the La Croqueta by shifting the ball from one foot to the other, evading the defender.
- 4
After successfully getting past the defender, the midfielder should continue dribbling towards the far cone.
- 5
Once they reach the far cone, the next midfielder in line begins their attempt, while the defender resets in the center.
Coaching Points
- Keep the ball close during the approach.
- Use quick foot movements to execute the La Croqueta.
- Stay balanced and maintain a low center of gravity.
- Always scan the field before making your move.
- Encourage confidence in one-on-one situations.
Variations
Increase the number of defenders for added difficulty, or reduce the size of the grid to enhance pressure on the midfielders.
