Precision Long Pass Drill
This drill focuses on perfecting the long pass technique by emphasizing foot placement, body angle, and follow-through. Players will practice passing over varying distances to improve their accuracy and power in long-range passing situations.
Objective
To enhance players' long passing accuracy and technique.
Setup
Set up a rectangular area of about 30x20 yards with cones marking the corners. Position two players at opposite ends of the rectangle and additional players along the sides for receiving and passing. Ensure enough space for players to practice without overcrowding.
Drill Steps
- 1
Players start at their designated corners with a ball, facing each other.
- 2
One player initiates the drill by passing the ball to the opposite player using the correct technique.
- 3
The receiving player must focus on body positioning, ensuring they are angled towards the ball and ready to receive it.
- 4
After receiving, the player performs a controlled touch before passing back in the same manner, ensuring they follow through properly.
- 5
Players rotate positions after every 5 passes to keep the drill dynamic and involve everyone.
Coaching Points
- Emphasize the importance of proper foot placement on the ball.
- Encourage players to maintain a balanced body angle throughout the pass.
- Remind players to follow through their kick for better power and accuracy.
- Ask players to communicate verbally when receiving the ball.
- Focus on timing and rhythm between the players.
Variations
To increase difficulty, add a defender to apply pressure during the passing. Alternatively, reduce the distance between players for beginners to build confidence.
