Precision Passing Drill

This drill focuses on developing players' passing accuracy and technique. Players will practice short and medium-range passes under varying pressures, emphasizing body positioning and follow-through.

Objective

To improve passing accuracy and decision-making under pressure.

Setup

Set up a rectangular area measuring 20x15 yards with cones marking the corners. Divide players into pairs, with one ball per pair. One player will be the passer, and the other will be the receiver.

Drill Steps

  1. 1

Start by having the passer stand 5 yards away from their partner and make a short pass to them using the inside of their foot.

  2. 2

The receiver should focus on receiving the ball with their foot, cushioning it to maintain control.

  3. 3

After receiving the pass, the receiver will make a return pass back to the passer, who will then take a step back to increase the distance to 10 yards.

  4. 4

Continue this process, alternating roles after every five passes, and gradually increase the distance between players.

  5. 5

Introduce a defender in the middle who can apply light pressure, forcing the passer to make quicker decisions and more precise passes.

Coaching Points

  • Use the inside of the foot for better accuracy.
  • Keep your head up to scan for options.
  • Follow through towards the target for a clean pass.
  • Cushion the ball when receiving to maintain control.
  • Encourage communication between players.

Variations

To make it easier, reduce the distance between players. To increase difficulty, introduce multiple defenders or limit the time to make a pass.
