Precision Passing Drill

This drill focuses on improving players' passing accuracy through targeted practice. Players will work in pairs to pass the ball to each other while aiming for specific targets, enhancing their precision and control.

Objective

To develop players' passing accuracy and decision-making under pressure.

Setup

Mark out a rectangular area of about 20x10 yards using cones. Place smaller cones or markers (about 1-2 yards apart) within this area as target zones. Organize players into pairs, each with one ball.

Drill Steps

  1. 1

Start by having players stand about 5 yards apart facing each other. One player begins with the ball.

  2. 2

The player with the ball will pass to their partner, aiming for one of the target zones marked by the cones.

  3. 3

After the pass, the receiving player will control the ball and return the pass, again aiming for a different target zone.

  4. 4

Encourage players to alternate roles after a set time or number of passes, ensuring both get to practice their passing.

  5. 5

As players become more comfortable, gradually increase the distance between them or decrease the size of the target zones.

Coaching Points

  • Focus on using the inside of your foot for better accuracy.
  • Keep your head up to scan the field for target zones.
  • Use proper body positioning to generate power and precision.
  • Encourage communication between players to enhance teamwork.
  • Make sure to follow through with your kicking foot for a cleaner strike.

Variations

To make the drill easier, reduce the distance between players. To increase the challenge, add a defender to apply pressure during the passing.
