Quarterback Pass Drill

In this drill, players will focus on enhancing their passing technique by mimicking the mechanics of a quarterback throw. This exercise will help players develop accuracy, grip, and arm angle when delivering passes on the pitch.

Objective

To improve players' passing accuracy and technique through focused practice.

Setup

Set up a grid measuring 20x20 yards with cones. Place two cones at opposite ends to serve as target areas. You will need at least four players to run this drill effectively.

Drill Steps

  1. 1

Divide players into two teams, with one team positioned at each end of the grid.

  2. 2

Players will practice receiving the ball from a teammate and then executing a quarterback-style pass to the target cone at the opposite end.

  3. 3

Emphasize the importance of grip and arm angle, ensuring players keep the ball tight to their body before releasing.

  4. 4

After passing, players should follow their pass to the target cone to simulate game-like movement.

  5. 5

Rotate players every few minutes, allowing everyone to practice passing and receiving.

Coaching Points

  • Focus on a firm grip and proper arm angle.
  • Encourage players to follow through with their pass.
  • Remind players to keep their eyes on the target cone.
  • Emphasize quick footwork when receiving the ball.
  • Ensure players communicate with their teammates.

Variations

To increase difficulty, reduce the size of the grid or add a defender to challenge the passer. For easier practice, allow players to use both feet when passing.
