Course 01 - Introduction to the Playmaker Role

Course 01 establishes the entire identity of Unit 05 by defining what the central midfielder / playmaker actually IS — not a role defined by a position on a tactics board, but a role defined by a SPECIFIC TYPE OF DECISION: the decision to ORGANISE the game through the second-to-last touch of the team, to slow it down when it must be slowed and accelerate it when it must accelerate, and to convert defensive recoveries into vertical penetrations through one well-weighted, well-disguised pass.

Course 02 - Scanning and Spatial Awareness

Course 02 extends Course 01 by deepening the SCAN phase of the scan-shape-execute routine. Course 01 introduced WHAT scanning is (4-point protocol). Course 02 teaches WHEN to scan (timing windows), HOW to scan (head rotation mechanics + 6-direction protocol), and WHY scanning works (the cognitive process that turns visual input into a spatial mental model the brain uses to anticipate). Scanning is the single most measurable difference between elite playmakers and average central midfielders — and the single most trainable skill in football, with a measurable improvement curve over weeks of practice.

Course 03 - Receiving Under Pressure

Course 03 extends Courses 01 and 02 by teaching the SPECIFIC TECHNIQUE of receiving when 2+ opponents are within 5 m and the decision window is compressed to 200–400 ms. Course 01 introduced body shape as a concept. Course 02 introduced the spatial map that informs body shape selection. Course 03 now teaches the precise biomechanics, the 5 pressure types, the 5 first-touch directions, and the pre-touch protection routines that allow the playmaker to RECEIVE WHERE OTHERS LOSE THE BALL. This course is the technical heart of the playmaker identity — without elite reception under pressure, every other skill in Unit 05 collapses at the moment the picture compresses.

COURSE 04 · 15 MODULES

Course 04 - Controlling the Tempo

Course 04 introduces the SPECIFIC TECHNIQUE of regulating team tempo. Course 01 introduced the playmaker as "tempo regulator" conceptually; Course 02 built the scanning that informs tempo decisions; Course 03 built the receiving technique that allows tempo flexibility. Course 04 now teaches the 4 tempo modes (slow / moderate / fast / instant), the 6 triggers that demand a tempo change, the biomechanical adjustments per tempo, and the rare but decisive "Pirlo Pause" — the deliberate deceleration that sets up an acceleration. This is the course that transforms the playmaker from a "good passer" into a CONDUCTOR of the team's collective rhythm.

Course 05 - Vertical Passing and Breaking Lines

Course 05 is where the cognitive foundation (Courses 01–02) and technical foundation (Course 03) and rhythmic foundation (Course 04) CONVERT INTO MATCH-DECIDING ACTIONS. A line-break is a pass that eliminates an opposition defensive line, converting circulation into progression. It is the single most valuable individual action a central midfielder produces. Course 05 teaches the 4 line-break window types, the 4 receiver categories, the 5 pass types, the disguise techniques, and the decision protocol that elite playmakers run 4–6 times per match. After Course 05, the playmaker stops being a "good circulator" and becomes a "line-breaker" — and the team's chance creation rate increases by 25–40%.

COURSE 06 · 15 MODULES

Course 06 - Switching the Point of Attack

Course 06 extends Course 05 (vertical line-breaks) into the LATERAL DIMENSION. Where line-breaks eliminate horizontal defensive lines, switches exploit horizontal IMBALANCE — the asymmetry created when opposition compresses to defend one side, leaving the other side undermanned. The switch converts that 5v3 or 6v4 numerical disadvantage on the compressed side into a 2v1 or 3v2 ADVANTAGE on the open side. It is a different progression mechanism, drawing on the same scanning, body-shape, and pass-execution foundations but applied across the full width of the pitch. After Course 06, the playmaker can attack the opposition in BOTH dimensions — vertically (line-breaks) and horizontally (switches) — making him impossible to defend with any single defensive shape.

COURSE 07 · 15 MODULES

Course 07 - Positioning and Triangles

Course 07 is the POSITIONAL FOUNDATION beneath every other Unit 05 course. Courses 01–06 teach what the playmaker does WITH the ball; Course 07 teaches what he does WITHOUT it — which is, statistically, 95–98% of the match. The playmaker touches the ball for 1.5–3 minutes total in a 90-minute match. The remaining 87–88 minutes are POSITIONING. The quality of that positioning determines whether teammates have passing options, whether the playmaker can receive when needed, whether the team can construct triangles in every phase, and whether the build-up has continuous structure rather than disconnected events. This course teaches positioning as a SYSTEM — the 5 distance ranges, the 4 triangle types, the 3 positioning roles, the 5-second repositioning cadence — that makes the playmaker the team's positional anchor.

COURSE 08 · 15 MODULES

Course 08 - Pressing and Defensive Duties in Midfield

Course 08 destroys the myth that the playmaker is "luxury" defensively. The data is unambiguous: Modric averages 8-10 recoveries per match, Busquets averaged 9-11, Kroos 7-9, Rodri 10-13. These numbers exceed many defensive midfielders. The elite playmaker is NOT a defensive liability — he is a defensive INTELLIGENCE. He defends with the HEAD (anticipation, cover-shadow, positioning) rather than with the BODY (tackles, sprints, duels). This course teaches the 5 defensive responsibilities specific to the playmaker role, the 5-second counter-press window, the cover-shadow defensive technique, the half-space marking discipline, and the tactical-foul recognition that sometimes separates winning teams from losing teams. After Course 08, the playmaker becomes a complete two-way midfielder — and the team's defensive structure runs through his head, not just through dedicated defensive midfielders.

COURSE 09 · 15 MODULES

Course 09 - Ball Retention and Recycling

Course 09 teaches the OPPOSITE of Course 05 (line-breaks) — when NOT to force progression. The decision between RETENTION and PROGRESSION is the most frequent decision the playmaker makes (60-80 times per match). Wrong frequencies destroy teams: too much retention produces possession-without-chances (Barcelona's post-Xavi era 2019-2022, 65% possession but few chances); too little retention produces constant turnovers (counter-attack vulnerability). The elite playmaker reads the picture and chooses CORRECTLY 80%+ of the time. Course 09 teaches the 5 retention triggers, the 5 recycling techniques, the 3 retention zones, the score-state modulation, and the patience discipline that allows possession to become chance creation rather than just possession statistics.

COURSE 10 · 15 MODULES

Course 10 - Arriving Late in the Box

Course 10 converts the playmaker from CREATOR into FINISHER. The skill is timing forward runs from depth (25-40 m from goal at run start) into the penalty box at the EXACT moment of cross, cut-back, or through-ball delivery. The arrival is "late" because opposition defenders are already marking the strikers and the #10; the playmaker arrives from BEYOND their marking system, unmarked, into a 5-10 m radius of goal. Lampard built a 177-goal career on this single skill. Bellingham has redefined the standard in 2023-24 with 19+ goals as a midfielder. KDB has built the cut-back culture around it. Course 10 teaches the 3 arrival types, 5 arrival zones, 5 run trajectories, 5 finishing techniques, and the trigger-recognition system that converts a creative playmaker into an 8-15 goal-per-season midfielder.

COURSE 11 · 15 MODULES

Course 11 - Transition from Defense to Attack

Course 11 teaches the highest-leverage offensive window in modern football — the 5-15 seconds after ball recovery when opposition shape is broken and chance creation is 3-5x more likely. Modern teams generate 20-40% of total goals from transitions (Klopp's Liverpool 30%+, Atlético 40%+, Real Madrid 25%+). The playmaker is the FIRST DECISION-MAKER in transition because his central position means he is usually closest to the ball at the moment of recovery. His first-pass decision in the 0.5-1.5 second window after recovery determines whether the transition produces a chance or dissolves into wasted possession. Course 11 teaches the 3 transition phases (Chaos Peak / Organisation Forming / Re-organised), the 5 transition triggers, the 5 run patterns, the first-pass selection, and the 5-3 rule (5 seconds to commit, 3 runners maximum) that converts the chaos window into structured offensive output.

Course 12 - Elite Central Midfielder Decision Flow

Elite Central Midfielder Decision Flow gives the central midfielder / playmaker a repeatable way to solve control tempo, connect the team, and progress play through pressure through elite central midfielder decision flow with earlier recognition, cleaner body shape, and a better next action. Master elite central midfielder decision flow so it becomes a repeatable solution inside central midfield orchestration and intelligent circulation. This course combines tactical reading, body preparation, technical detail, and match-speed application — all of it integrated from the previous eleven courses.
